A Bit Depressed by the World
So today, to sum up:
- The flotilla bringing food and water to people starving in Gaza has been stopped.
- Trump tells his generals that the enemy within (roughly, the Democrats) will now have to be treated like a foreign enemy.
- Jancovici explains that the mechanisms regulating the climate are passing points of no return faster than expected.
What makes me sad?
I think it's time to let go of the illusion that we lived in a society of progress where people of good will worked for the common good.
The age of abundant energy that is now ending has left us hooked on a comfort we no longer know how to live without. Now that the ground is shaking under our feet, we turn our anxious eyes to the most unhinged among us to save us.
The time of peace is over.
