Should I Force Myself?

No note today.

I had too much to do this morning and didn't find the time.

Should I write it this afternoon?

Not really in the mood. Other things to do.

Should I force myself?

You know what I think about that.

Then I thought about it and realized there are actually two reasons to force yourself:

  • Inner reasons Because you secretly want to, because you find it fun.
  • Outer reasons So you don't disappoint people.

And since I was clearly doing this for outer reasons (now that I have readers, I don't want to let them down), I reached the following conclusion:

No note today.

Every now and then, that's how it'll be.

And as often happens, once I gave myself permission not to do it...

The desire came back.

I found it funny that this inner/outer obligation idea ended up illustrated by today's note itself.

So now I'm writing for inner reasons. With joy.

That's often how I get through the things that bore me:

When I feel resistance, I don't force myself.

Then at some point, momentum arrives.

The task becomes easy, the result much better.

Momentum that would never have come if I had forced myself in the first place.
