Control and creation
I often talk about no longer setting goals in the future and finding joy in acting now.
I also talk about building a daily practice where, for 10 minutes a day, you just do.
No planning, no preparing: you do.
Because deep down, you don't know. And nobody can tell you. You have to do.
Here's what Thom Yorke says about it in this video:
Songwriting is like a naive thing. You can't be savvy about it.
You can work really hard on it, but the good stuff just happens.
And you don't know why.
And you've got to be honest with yourself that you don't know why.
And you've got to carry on being honest with yourself that you don't know why.
And when stuff forms that you like, you just grab onto it and you don't let go.
Because the stuff you like, you don't know why you like it.
Like Pyramid Song: it's three chords over and over again, and the same lyric.
How does that make sense? But you like it.
You like it.
You're not bothered about if anyone else likes it.
