Why It Seems Everything We Knew About the Global Economy Is No Longer True
An article on the front page of the U.S. edition of The New York Times this weekend, the kind that would have been hard to imagine a few years ago.
To sum it up: the faith placed in the market and in liberalization after the fall of the USSR – a time when some were talking about the "End of History" – is showing its limits more and more plainly. Not only has globalization failed to bring peace, turn dictatorships into democracies, or end poverty, but we are living in one of the most unequal eras in history, and the changes ahead – in energy, in the climate, in society and politics – are likely to widen that gap on a scale that's hard to imagine.
Nothing very new, then, for anyone who keeps up.
What's new is that it's on the front page of The New York Times.
