Productive without pressure

Productive without pressure What does a day look like once you've "freed yourself from future obligations"?

What does a day look like once you've "freed yourself from future obligations"?

I'm not saying I've nailed it 100% – far from it.

And yet my days now are very different from my days a few years ago.

First: I'm very active. From morning to night.

Provided you're willing to file "meditation" under "active".

But that's one of the main features of my days: there's no more "real" or "fake" action.

No more work on one side and rest on the other.

There's only "doing". "Acting".

And meditating is doing too.

Each activity blends into the next.

Each morning usually starts in the same order: meditation, exercise, journaling.

Exercise is meditation continued through the body.

Journaling, meditation continued through the mind.

And from there, it never stops:

Writing, emails, editing, research, accounting, walking, rest.

No activity is forbidden, none is judged.

I do what I do, that's all.

Don't feel like it? Then I don't.

Feel like it? I do.

Had enough? I stop.

Tired? I sleep.

And yet: everything that needs doing gets done. The books are up to date. Deadlines are met.

And I'm much more productive than before.

Yes: the things I don't enjoy doing get done too.

How? A bit like magic.

When I don't feel like it, I don't. Then at some point, I do. Easily.

It all gets carried along in the flow.

And to set up this flow, here's the advice I'd give:

  1. Don't judge the present action. I do what I do, and that's perfectly fine.
  2. Don't plan the next action. It'll be decided naturally when the time comes.
  3. Nothing comes? Do nothing. Stay calm. Accept the idleness. The right action will come on its own.
  4. An activity keeps stalling? There's probably an alignment problem to look into.
  5. And obligations? Appointments? Keep them, of course. But they get less bothersome over time.

In the end, I'm just giving the body (which includes the brain, mind you) more freedom to run life.

I'm not forcing it into some authoritarian, reductive logic.

I let it adapt to the real circumstances. Inner and outer.

And it's far better than me at handling everything.
